Paso La Paz - La Paz is the administrative capital of Bolivia in South America and it was suggested by a spectator at the competition when the name had to be changed on the day.

Sweet Sixteen Blues - the arrangers, Graham and Kathy Thomson’s daughter Sophie, is sixteen next month.

Diamond Quickstep - name chosen at random by John and Maureen

Jewel Jive - after going through all the names of precious stones to try and find a suitable name for their jive, Stuart and Beverly decided on the name ‘Jewel’.

Saunter Madeira - Madeira was where John was on holiday when he started thinking about arranging his winning dance.

Toorak Tango - is the name of a hotel in the TLH Leisure Complex in Torquay, where Steven and Helen recently organised a dancing holiday

Floral Gavotte - the competition was held at the ‘Floral’ Hall in Southport.

Ravenna Waltz - renamed as the dance was originally called Verona Waltz during the competition. Ravenna is a place in Italy and this follows David and Karens Italian Theme.

Riverside Rumba - name chosen at random by a dancer who attends one of Steven and Helens dances.

Ambleside Saunter - Ambleside is a town in Cumbria, in North-West England where Michael and Angela live. It is situated at the head of Windermere England largest lake.

Windermere Foxtrot - Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, in the North-West of England where Michael and Angela live.

Manuka Mambo - no reason provided. Dancers have emailed in to advise that Manuka is a flowering plant found in New Zealand. It is also a type of honey.

 

UKA - 1 June 2008

Whiteabbey Waltz - Whiteabbey is a small urban village in County Antrim, near Belfast, where Steven and Helen visited in May.

Chattanooga Cha Cha Cha - the name was taken from the track used by Steven and Helen, Chattanooga Choo choo, on the Ross Mitchell CD, The Rainbow Collection. Track 19.

Eton Waltz - taken from the name of the track used by John and Pauline Stingfellow, Eton Boating song, on Larry Greens album ‘Everything’s in Rhythm’.

Caterham Quickstep - Caterham is the name of a car driven recently by Steven during a driving day experience purchased for a birthday present. www.palmersport.com

Strictlee Mambo - the BBC currently have a trademark registered over the word ‘Strictly’, so the winning mambo name was amended to ‘Strictlee’ Mambo. The Strictly Come Dancing theme tune was used on Larry Greens Latest album ‘Fields of Gold’, available from Maestro Records now.

Rumba Latina and Simply Swing - names chosen at random.

Taymar Tango - named after a major road bridge in the southwest of England carrying traffic between Devon and Cornwall. Tamar Bridge, spelt on this occasion with a ‘Y’ for pronunciation.

Caedmon Quickstep - pronounced “Kaydmon”- Cædmon is the earliest Engligh poet whose name is known. An Anglo Saxon herdsman attached to the double monastrey of Streonæshalch (Whitby Abbey). Whitby is where Kevin and Valerie teach.

Tango Milano - following David and Kellys Italian theme

Boogie Woogie Jive - originally named Boogie Jive and re-named Boogie Woogie Jive. The name is taken from the jive track ‘I Love to Boogie’, which will be on Richard Keelings new CD now available from Maestro Records

Rannerdale Rumba - Rannerdale is on lake Buttermere’s north shore in the Lake District and is famous for its spring carpet of bluebells

Torrance Tango - following Kelly and Ellens street name theme from their home town of Darlington

Haweswater Waltz - Haweswater is the highest lake in the Lake District at 790 meters above sea level, and is situated south of Penrith and north of WIndermere in the Lake District.

Time Square Tango - Time Square is in New York and where the arranger, Avril Watkins, celebrated her 50th birthday earlier this year.

Redcliffe Foxtrot - ’Redcliffe’ is a place in Queensland, Australia, where Ray and Bridget have been on holiday and spent time with good friends.

Sun Samba - ‘Sun’ is a Street name in Darlington where Kelly and Ellen live

Rylstone Rumba - pronounced ‘Rilstone’, is famous for being the original home of the Rylstone Women's Institute - whose members achieved fame by posing nude for a celebrated charity calendar. Their story was made into a film called “Calendar Girls”. Close to where Graham and Kathy live.

Platinum Saunter - the name was chosen as this was Kathy and Graham Thomsons 70th prize winning dance.
